Gnome Shell - Toggle mic on/off with keyboard shortcut

First off you need to identify the name of the mic that is used to control it from amixer. To do that you execute the following command:
amixer scontrols

In my case the output is:
Simple mixer control 'Master',0
Simple mixer control 'Capture',0

So 'Capture' is the name for my mic input on my laptop.

With that information you can toggle the mic on/off with the following command:
amixer -q set Capture toggle
You need to replace "Capture" with the name that represents your mic in your own machine as obtained in previous step.

And finally you configure the shortcut in Gnome preferences -> Keyboard -> Keyboard shortcuts -> Custom shortcuts

You can do this for any global shortcut that you want.

Debian 8 - Gnome Shell Screencast

This is amazing... if you are in gnome shell, and without installing anything press "ctrl+alt+shif+R".
You see that red circle on the top right ?

Press it again an it'll stop. You'll find the resulting ".webm" on the "Videos" folder.

Robotic Echoplaster available for purchase!

Gtick - Gnome Metronome

If you are a musician you probably nedded to use a metronome one time or another. It's common to use metronome apps on mobile phones these days but to me, every time I need to practice I'm sitting on my computer chair and having a metronome on my PC has te advantage to sound through bigger and louder speakers than my celphone has.

Gtick is an awesome metronome built for the Gnome environment.

You can define the bar measurement, wich pulse to accentuate, customize the sound and visualize ticks.

It's just an apt-get install away from Debian based distributions.

Rombus - Robotic Echoplaster

This album tells a story where a crew of space warriors from earth are trying to return home. They are stuck with no fuel on an alien planet where they lived for 3 months until they found that they could make fuel through a chemical process involving minerals commonly found on that place, so they started exploiting it. Alien lifeforms noticed that and stopped them with a gas poison called "The Robotic Echoplaster".

Remote backups Linux - Back in time

Back in time is a tool for making snapshots of files & folders that runs on GNU/Linux. It has a frontend for Gnome and KDE.
In Debian you can do the following to install it:

sudo apt-get install backintime-gnome sshfs
sudo adduser <YOURUSER> fuse
# Now generate your key, use default location and enter a passphrase.
ssh-keygen -t dsa
# Replace <REMOTE_USER> and <HOST> with appropriate values.
ssh-copy-id -i ~/.ssh/id_dsa.pub <REMOTE_USER>@<HOST>

Following steps are easy enough, excecute backintime-gnome. Configure your remote server and add files and folders. Configure scheduling or launch a backup now. That's it!

Easy, effective and painless ;) that's how it's supposed to be.

Automate brightness states in Cobrets new update!

With this new update it now allows you to configure a given time on the day to automatically set one brightness state. The reason behind this feature is that at night I use the screen filter, in the morning I go to work, sometimes without looking at the phone until I'm outside. And in the summer it's really bright in the morning, so I can't see anything on my screen. With this I set the max brightness to be set at the time I go to work. Boom, problem solved ;)
I hope someone else find this useful.
There are other enhancements I want to make, like sensing the amount of light and acting according to that information, but for now I'll be trying this new method out.

Rombus - Canticus Tenebris

This is a small collection of horror, suspense and electronic songs that I've made with the Korg DS-10 on a Nintendo DS lite.

I've updated to a 2DS and Korg DSN-12, so these 4/5 songs are the last I will make using DS-10.

Do you like the cover art? It's a photograph taken with a Game Boy Camera ;) (edited in Gimp, of course).

Available for purchase at bandcamp!

Rombus RMBS-01

Rombus RMBS-01 is a 3 songs long album made entirely with a Korg DS-10 on a Nintendo DS Lite.
These are the first 3 songs I made with the DS-10.
I'm thinking on grabbing a DSi so that I can use the DS-10 Plus that is more capable and faster to compose.

Enjoy!

Short Alarms for Android

Short Alarms is a simple application that makes a sound and vibrates at a configurable time interval.
It also can be configured to alert forever or a limited number of times.

The sound that's played in the app is no longer than 5 seconds. It's an unattended alarm in the way that you don't need to press anything to stop the sound. It's just an audible notification.

If the repeats are setted to 0, the alarm will sound at each interval forever until you hit the cancel button.
